Hi, Everyone! We made it to the end of another successful season! We had some very good conductors this year, and most commented on our level of play. They were pleased that we played so well and were such good sight-readers.

We gained some new members this year and now have several conductors among our midst! Our workshop was a success, though we didn’t make much money. However, the two faculty were excellent and those who did attend seemed to be most pleased.

It has come time for me to say good-by, but I know I am leaving OCRS in very capable hands, and hands that are so much more experienced in music than mine! It has certainly been a pleasure to represent our society these past five years. You were so nice to put up with me, and I have always enjoyed our Friday nights together.

I’m sorry that I won’t be here to participate in the 40th anniversary celebration, but I know I will get a report and pictures! I hope you all manage to get to the site, for it really is a neat place for a get-together! Go out early and take a nature walk around a pond or two. There will be a nice surprise, for we commissioned Glen Shannon to compose a fanfare just for our 40th. I think you will like it and enjoy playing it anytime you take your group to perform. We wanted a fanfare so that it would be played instead of sitting tucked away in a folder somewhere. It will be a fun way to start things off! You will hear it at the celebration.

I want to especially thank the members of the Boards over the five years. You have among you such capable folks and they have been so easy to work with. I would encourage all of you to try your hand at one of the positions. It really isn’t much work but it is satisfying, and we always hope that those who follow us will be better! Don’t let the organization diminish. It is such pleasure to make music with a group that enjoys playing!

Do take the opportunity to attend a workshop or two, and, if you can, to take private lessons. It is what makes us better players. For me, getting better has been so rewarding. (I have certainly improved from when I first joined OCRS!)

Again, I thank you and wish you many more years of playing the recorder. I’m going to be joining a group in Santa Fe, but there aren’t nearly as many of them! I shall miss playing with you!

Should you be visiting in Santa Fe, do give me a call. You have my cell phone number on the roll sheet and that won’t change. It is one of the places to add to your “bucket list” (if you haven’t already visited “the city different.”)

Farewell and do take care of yourselves!

Most sincerely,

—Jo Redmon
